Cystic Acne – The Scary Truth

Cystic acne is an embarrassing and sometimes painful problem to have.  Most people who suffer from acne have common acne, also known as acne vulgaris.  Acne sufferers sometimes breakout with inflamed cysts, or cystic acne.

Millions of teens suffer from this problem.  When excess oil is secreted from the sebaceous glands and meets with blocked hair follicles or plugged pores, it causes a problem in the normal skin shedding process.  Instead of shedding the dead skin cells that line pores, the skin of an acne sufferer simply allows the majority of this debris to accumulate.

Oil will continue to be excreted by the sebaceous glands.  This creates the perfect environment for bacteria and yeast to grow.  The skin will respond to this infection by producing a lesion, more commonly known as an acne pimple.

Most forms of acne are more of a pain in the neck than anything else.  They don't post any real physical threat to your health.  However, there are acne pimples that can cause more severe problems, such as scarring of the skin and pitting of the skin.

One of the most troublesome forms of this severe acne is called cystic acne.  Cystic acne is characterized by pus filling the lesion.  These breakouts will easily scar skin, leaving dark marks or pits where they formed.  They may also be painful to the touch.

Many teens, and sometimes even adults, who suffer from cystic acne are tempted to squeeze the lesion to drain the pus.  This is very harmful to your skin, as doing so will cause much of the infection to be pushed even deeper into the dermis.  That means longer healing times and added complications.

Having cystic acne means that your body has an imbalance of hormones or an overflow of toxins.  It's very likely that you're suffering from both these conditions.  Although you can see a dermatologist who will attempt to treat your acne with a cream or lotion, there are a few steps you can take on your own that may work well for you.

First of all, read out natural acne cure article.  Understand the importance of healing your body.  If you don't take care of your body, it won't take care of you – plain and simple.

I encourage you to do some internal cleanses and improve your diet.  Doing so should result in a dramatic change to your skin problems.

If you also want to treat the surface of your skin to speed along results, we have some great tips specifically for cystic acne sufferers:

  • Do not use benzoyl peroxide on your skin regularly.  This will cause the bacteria to seek safety deeper and deeper in your skin, worsening your already existing condition
  • Be extra gentle.  Stay away from harsh products and exfoliants.  Here's a rule of thumb when it comes to skin care products of practices: If it stings, don't do it!  Irritating your already inflamed skin will only cause you more problems.
  • Use a natural clay mask.  Find some pure Bentonite or Pascalite clay at your local health food store or online.  Using clay as a mask will assist your body in eliminating toxins and dead skin cells.
  • Avoid anything that contains fragrances.  There's a chance that you're allergic to synthetic chemicals or fragrances.  Some people notice an improvement in their acne when eliminating weird chemicals from their daily life.
  • Try a new laundry detergent.  I recommend a gentle liquid detergent from a health food store.  You'd be surprised at how quickly your skin feels better just by switching laundry detergents.

Remember that although cystic acne is an embarrassing problem, it's there for a reason.  Your body is trying to get a message to you.  It's screaming "take better care of me!"  You won't get rid of your acne until your body feels that the imbalance is corrected or that sufficient toxins have been eliminated.
